The Ethics Code mandates that all County and municipal elected officials complete ethics training within 90 days after being sworn into office. Failure to comply with this requirement could result in a complaint being filed against a non-compliant elected official for a violation of the Conflict of Interest and Code of Ethics ordinance.

The Ethics Commission presents a two-hour program to fulfill that obligation that covers the Miami-Dade Conflict of Interest and Code of Ethics Ordinance and Citizens' Bill of Rights, Florida's Sunshine and Public Records Laws, as well as relevant provision of the State Ethics Code for Public Officials and Employees.

Each affected governmental unit should contact the Commission on Ethics at least 30 days prior to any election to schedule the course for that unit. Depending on circumstances, some courses may include more than one municipality. For any questions or to schedule a session, call 305-579-2594 or email ethics@miamidade.gov.
