"PI” refers to a Preliminary Investigation; "K” is an investigation. Some eventually become formal complaints that go before the before the Ethics Commission. Many are closed because the Advocate has determined there was no wrongdoing or the evidence is insufficient to file a formal complaint. In some cases, the Advocate may determine that no action will be taken on the information.
